Denise Harry Counselling in the Ashford and Staines area

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens in the first session?

The first session is an opportunity to discuss what brings you to counselling and to explore your expectations around counselling. Generally we discuss how we might best work together to help you get what you need from our time together.

How many sessions will I need?

This differs for everyone. I believe the length of time we spend together will depend on your needs and aims. Some clients decide short term counselling would better suit them and others prefer to stay for longer. I do not set a limit on our time together nor do I require a minimum number of sessions. As the work progresses this is something we can discuss and we can work towards an ending time that feels right for you.

How long do sessions last?

Individual sessions last for 50 minutes and couples sessions last for 60 minutes. Occasionally clients request a longer session which I try to accommodate if possible. For some clients setting a regular day and time each week to meet suits best. However I realize that not all schedules allow for this so I am flexible and will work with you to discuss a day and time that suits you on a weekly basis should you require.

What is confidentiality?

Generally what you bring to counselling is not discussed by me outside the room. The only time I might share any of the information is if I feel you or someone else is at risk of serious harm, or if I have knowledge of something crime related. I would let you know who I would be disclosing this information to if the situation occurs. I do also regularly attend supervision where I discuss my clients with my supervisor to ensure the client's best interest is being met.

What if I miss a session?

If you miss a session without giving 24 hours notice of cancellation you will be responsible for the full session fee. However I do realise there are times where this is not possible so will be flexible if the situation requires.

What is the cost?

The cost for a 50 minute individual session is £50. The cost for a 60 minute couple session is £70.

What if I decide I want to end my counselling?

You may decide at some point that you do no wish to, or are unable to, continue with counselling. You are of course able to end your counselling at any time, though I do request that you give a few weeks notice so that we can work towards an ending.
